Do not look at the container, but rather what is inside it. ~ Pirkei Avot
The mission of the Jewish Inclusion Connection is to educate, enable and empower Jewish agencies, organizations, institutions and synagogues to become welcoming, inclusive and supportive of people with disabilities, so that every individual can participate in all aspects of communal Jewish life. ¬†Community members need to build compassionate Jewish communities that include a place for everyone. People with disabilities often are not present in Jewish life because they and their families feel they aren’t wanted there. Some parents become resigned that there will never be a Jewish place for their child. Others become numb. As disabled children become adults there is often no place to continue their education and no employers who will take them in. Synagogues and Jewish communities need to embrace these families as their children grow up, ¬†transition to adulthood and become adults.
